My favorite sites

I know not where I came from nor the footsteps from long ago
There are holes in my story, empty aching arms of memories.

One of my branches lies deep within the Celtic heartwood,
I feel that heartbeat loudly in my veins;
And see it growing in my children's eyes.
The lilt of the harp on a sea breeze;
The tang of salt licking me
How my eyes reflect the eternal changing sea;
I look in the mirror a thousand women look back at me...
Healers, dreamers, midwives of souls
Bound by blood and sweat and spirit to the rich earth
and to their hearts that reach across the waters wide.
These are my foremothers,
who have roamed this Earth in search of a better life
who protect their young like a she bear
who love so fiercely
who find God in all things
who carry their hearts in their faces and their hands.

Another of my branches is not as clear,
it hides in shadows and is twisted and gnarled.
Sometimes I dream of wide open spaces,
a sky huge and deepest blue
the thundering double heartbeat of hoof and heart.
My spirit leaps with the crackling flames
Somewhere on the Silk Road.

From this branch a tendril emerges,
it caresses my thoughts with echoes
of voices raised in ecstasy and praise.

Greater than all these
I find myself born of a strange land,
a wild extreme place
A land of raw and splendid beauty.
Oft times I find the skies seem to have shifted
the stars are all in the wrong places
and I long for gentle and soft light
instead of intensity
I yearn for twilight's silken skirts
and carpets of winter bright.
Then this land calls me,
a voice that grabs my heart
I feel her breath,
her exhaltation
her agony.
She reminds me that even though
my blood runs thick through far horizons
My body created from the deep ochres and clays
of this ancient land.

I am a woman of the Earth

I am a woman of the Sea

I am all women....
